You will be honoured with a visit to Montelabate Abbey (Benedictine), a unique building in Umbria which dates back to the 9th Century, not open to the general public including the crypts and the old church. This is followed by the lovely Città di Castello, the main town in Umbria with its elegant character in the historical town centre of Renaissance mansions and museums.
In the morning we will visit the Abbey of Montelabate and its olive press. According to several sources, the Abbey of Montelabate dates back to the 9th Century: In 969 a Papal Bull by Pope Johannes XIII ordered the Abbott Pietro to restore the monastery and to start a new Benedictine cenacle.
Lunch in a farmhouse in the countryside.
In the afternoon a walk around the lovely town of Città di Castello where during the 15th and 16th Centuries, the ruling Vitelli family gave an elegant character to its historical centre by building several Renaissance mansions and commissioning important artworks by famous artists. The many museums contain a surprisingly rich artistic activity and we advise to visit at least one of them.
